Why do you believe organics play such an important role in the cannabis space?
Cannabis is a bio-accumulator, meaning it absorbs what is present in the soil where it is grown. Because of that, the quality of the growing process directly impacts the safety and integrity of the final product. If someone is using cannabis for wellness, relief, or daily care, they should feel confident about everything they are putting on or into their body.
For me, organics are also about intention. They reflect care for the land, respect for the plant, and responsibility to the people using the product. In an industry that has expanded very quickly, organic practices help anchor our work in integrity. At The Healing Rose, organics are not a trend or a talking point. They are foundational to how we operate and how we earn trust.
How does The Healing Rose help set the benchmark for quality in organic CBD?
Quality consists of a series of decisions made at all levels of the process and supply chain. It begins with sourcing certified organic ingredients, including CBD and CBG, then continues through extraction, formulation, testing, packaging, and transparency.
We take a hands-on approach to formulation and only use ingredients that serve a purpose. We test thoroughly and share those results openly on our website for all to see. We also pay close attention to how our products feel to our customers and how they use them to function in their daily lives. Absorption, texture, scent, and consistency all matter to us – everything needs to be in harmony. Setting a benchmark is less about being a company with a huge marketing budget telling everyone how wonderful we are, and more about being reliable and consistent over time.
What product or products are you proudest of, and why?
Our Salves will always be especially meaningful to me. They are where our values come through most clearly. Each formula is built with organic ingredients and designed to be both effective and gentle. They reflect the balance we aim for between function and care. Especially our Lemon Ginger Salve – this product has been the best seller since 2018 and it continues to grow.
I am also really proud of our Tinctures, where we’ve really been able to expand our offerings of different non-psychoactive cannabinoids for customers seeking wellness tools. We really want to provide these unique ratios and rare options (like our new Soothe CBC Oil) for customers looking to utilize these amazing cannabinoids.
What has surprised you most about being an entrepreneur in cannabis?
How much education is still needed. Many people are still navigating outdated stigma, misinformation, or unrealistic expectations around cannabis and CBD. Being in this space means consistently helping people understand what they are using and why quality matters.
I have also been surprised by how much adaptability the industry requires. Regulations shift, platforms change their rules, and growth rarely follows a straight line. Dealing with banking issues, struggling at finding mortgage companies and financial advisors that will work with hemp entrepreneurs – and so many other roadblocks that a traditional business usually doesn’t deal with also add an extra layer of complexity to the journey. But it’s worth it! It has reinforced the importance of building a business rooted in strong values rather than short-term momentum.
What has been the most challenging aspect of building The Healing Rose? What has been the most rewarding?
The most challenging part has been how long the 9 year non-stop hustle of running a small business has been. The never truly taking a day off, never not thinking about the business, and the millions of moving parts that come with small business ownership. Organic sourcing, compliant formulations, and responsible growth take time. There is often pressure to move faster, but we have chosen to move thoughtfully.
The most rewarding part is hearing from customers who have found real relief or comfort through our products. Knowing that something we created has become part of someone’s daily routine is incredibly meaningful.
Community is important to The Healing Rose. What does community mean to you?
Community is about relationships, not transactions. It is built through listening, responsiveness, and consistency. It means treating customers as people and recognizing that trust is something you earn over time. We believe in being an active member of the Newburyport community.
In wellness, community also creates a sense of safety. When people feel informed and supported, they can make choices that truly serve their needs.
What does The Healing Rose do to support its community and customers?
We focus on education, transparency, and accessibility. That shows up in how we communicate, how we answer questions, and how we formulate products that are approachable without compromising quality. We stay closely connected to our customers, and their feedback directly influences what we create next. Our community helps shape the brand in real and meaningful ways.
How does this mindset translate into your organizational culture?
Internally, it means respect, clarity, and shared responsibility. We value thoughtful decision-making and open communication. Everyone on the team understands why we do what we do and how their work contributes to the larger mission.
That alignment leads to better products, stronger relationships, and a healthier company overall.
What excites you most about new markets and new products?
What excites me most is the ability to bring The Healing Rose into more dispensaries and retail spaces across the country. As we grow our footprint, we are able to meet people where they already shop and make organic, thoughtfully made CBD products more accessible. Expanding into new markets also allows us to work closely with retailers who value education and quality, and to introduce our products to customers who may have been disappointed by CBD in the past. Increasing our presence on shelves is not just about growth. It is about raising the standard for what people expect from CBD when they encounter it in a trusted store.
