Meet Our Production Team Member, Megan!
We are a team that “does a little bit of everything.” That’s one of the things that Production Assistant Megan Bousquet loves about working with The Healing Rose team. Megan was a customer before joining the Production Team, and she loves spreading the word about the benefits of CBD, breaking down social stigmas, and bringing cannabis healing to venues and occasions where it can have an impact.
The conversation below has been lightly edited for length and clarity.
What do you do at The Healing Rose, and how long have you been with the company?
I have been a Production Assistant for nearly four years now. I came into The Healing Rose as a fan and a customer. I was using our products for a long time before I ever entered the industry. I was working in the restaurant industry for years and years, but then in 2019 I flipped my life upside down and was looking for a new role. I was training to become a yoga teacher when I first applied to The Healing Rose, and I didn’t have the weekend availability that they needed at the time – once I finished my training, I reached out to Laura and asked if they were still looking for help. And here we are!
We’re definitely a team that does a little bit of everything, but my primary role is helping out in the lab. That means supporting Shannon, packaging and labeling products, or preparing everything to leave the building and go into customers’ hands. I also get out into different markets we operate in, helping with staff training at wholesale accounts, or working popups and markets.
How has the CBD market changed since you entered the industry professionally?
For a long time, we weren’t able to sell our products into the THC market so seeing that shift has been really exciting! It is also nice to see the attention that all of the minor cannabinoids are getting, and I think that is really important.
There’s so many things that all of these minor cannabinoids can do that for such a long time weren’t really being discussed. A lot of the focus has been on THC and CBD, but now there’s so much more information coming out about CBG, CBN and THCV, and I just think that is a really exciting opportunity. It is nice to see that people are more open to hearing about them and giving minor cannabinoids a spotlight.
What sort of advice would you offer somebody who wanted to get into CBD production?
If you want to get into the CBD industry, it is helpful to be familiar with all the minor cannabinoids. Minor cannabinoids are becoming so much more available and so much more talked about. Having that baseline knowledge is a really great place to start in terms of getting into the industry. In terms of production, be patient, flexible, and detail oriented!
How does the work you’re doing at The Healing Rose align with your personal values?
Like I said, I was a big fan of the company prior to working for the company. Being a yoga teacher, helping people taking care of themselves is something that I am really passionate about.
I love when people come into a yoga class and want to move their body and be intentional with their breath, and I think having these organic, natural options that may provide pain relief is just a really great way to combine my two loves of wellness and yoga.
I teach a yoga class on Monday nights, and sometimes I’ll talk about my day at work with my students. Once they find out what I do there are usually a lot of questions. We’ve created a trusting relationship so they’re open to hearing what I have to say about it, about experiences that other customers have told me they’ve had with CBD, and the things I’ve experienced myself with it. Usually I’m met with a lot of questions, but from a very open minded perspective so I’ve definitely recruited a lot of my yoga students to The Healing Rose!
I host a CBD restorative yoga class with a friend of mine at the Yoga Tree in Haverhill, MA. We use our CBD massage oils and do hands-on adjustments during the class. It’s a really nice way to incorporate CBD into the yoga practice, and showing that it is an option and how to use it. Some people think that they have to deal with knee pain, wrist pain, or shoulder pain and that there aren’t tools out there that can help. But there are – there are things out there that can help and provide huge relief.
What the company is doing in general is wonderful. Zach and Laura, the founders, have a really great goal for the company and where they want to go. My two worlds are very intertwined.
Do you have a favorite story about any of those experiences?
This is tough! We get so many stories because we are such a small team – we’re always hearing stories from people and sharing them with each other.
Working in the lab – I love it in there – but it’s very easy to forget why we’re doing what we’re doing. I think going out to markets and actually hearing first-hand experiences from these names that we might see come up in the shipping room and what our products are actually doing for people is such a good reminder for why we’re doing what we’re doing.
It’s so hard to pick just one, because I’ve heard so many – like I’ve cried at events – but I always love hearing people’s stories with our products.
